An interior brick feature wall is a wall clad in brick slips — thin slices of real brick, roughly 20mm deep, bonded to your existing plaster, board or blockwork and pointed exactly like full brickwork. When it is set out properly you cannot tell it from a solid brick wall, because it is not an imitation material: it is brick.
That distinction matters more than any sales line. Printed panels, moulded polyurethane sheets and photographic wallpapers all read as fake in raking light, because the face is uniform and the joints repeat. What Happens When A Feature Wall Is Fitted Badly
A brick slip wall is unforgiving. Every error is repeated across hundreds of visible faces at eye level, in the room you sit in every evening. Perpends that drift out of plumb, courses that climb, joints that change width halfway up, corners cut on a mitre so the return shows a paper-thin edge — none of it can be hidden once the pointing is in.
The other failure mode is adhesion. Slips bonded to dusty plaster, over old vinyl paint, or onto a substrate that was never checked for movement will eventually let go. That failure does not present politely: it hollows out behind the pointing, then a section drops, and the repair is rarely invisible because the replacement bricks have not weathered with the rest of the wall.
Both outcomes cost more than doing it once. Stripping a bonded slip wall damages the plaster behind it, so a failed installation usually means re-boarding or re-skimming the whole wall before anyone can start again — on top of buying the brick a second time.

Brick Types And Blends
The range runs from London stocks and weathered yellows through antique and reclaimed-look blends to smooth greys and traditional reds. Warmer, softer blends suit period rooms and log-burner recesses; greyer, smoother faces suit contemporary open-plan spaces and kitchens. Multi-tonal blends hide the joins in a large elevation better than a flat single colour, which is why they are usually the safer choice on a full-height wall.
Substrates We Fit To
Plaster, plasterboard, blockwork, brickwork and render are all workable provided the surface is sound, dry and stable. Painted surfaces are assessed individually — a matt emulsion behaves differently from an old gloss. Where a substrate is not suitable as it stands, we say so at inspection stage rather than after the brick has been bought.
Bond Patterns And Setting Out
Stretcher bond is the default and the most convincing indoors. Stack bond and herringbone are possible and can look striking in a kitchen or bar, but they are less forgiving: every joint line is exposed, so setting out has to be exact. The start course, joint width and how the bond meets ceilings, skirtings and reveals are all decided before fixing starts.
Corners, Reveals And Edges
External corners use purpose-made corner slips — a single L-shaped piece that wraps the return. This is the single biggest tell between a professional installation and a DIY one. Window reveals, door openings and the vertical edge where brick meets plaster are detailed so the transition is deliberate rather than a raw exposed edge.
Pointing And Joint Finishes
Joint colour changes the wall more than most people expect — a pale joint lifts and separates each brick, a darker joint makes the wall recede and read as one mass. Joint width and finish are agreed with you before pointing, and the joints are struck at the right stage so colour stays even across the whole elevation.
